Dear all,
I have summed up our AIW Committee Meeting of September 17, 2021:
AIW Online Talkshop:
James Mackay has suggested to have an additional online format,
complementary to the American Indian Workshop (AIW), which will be held
in-person annually, as far as hygienic rules allow in-person conferences. On
suggestion of Thomas Jacobs, we decided calling it "AIW Online Talkshop."
The plan is to have a one-day online event with an open format, where
conveners can decide how to design it. The first Talkshop is planned for
December 2022 by James Mackay. James Mackay, as the AIW Online Meeting
Manager, has volunteered to support further Talkshops with his online
meeting expertise.
AIW Journal:
Sonja Ross presented her plans for an AIW Journal to the Committee. The
first step will be to put papers read at AIWs, on a closed platform for a
peer-reviewed discussions. The platform should be accessible for AIW members
only. It was suggested to call this platform "AIW Repository." Authors are
free to publish their papers in scientific journals. The next step would be
to develop an AIW Online Journal out of this.
Markus Lindner suggested to ask Christian Feest, whether the "European
Review of Native American Studies (ERNAS)" could be reactivated in this
online form.
Finances:
It was discussed how to finance the journal and other AIW projects. The best
solution would be to create a non-profit organization, which could plan and
control financing these projects and financially supporting the AIW. A
non-profit organization would have no effect on the personal income tax of
the persons involved, while all other options would do so. Moreover, an
organization, with a permanent membership and fixed membership fees, would
make financial planning better calculable and more secure (e.g payment of
rental fees for the AIW server).
As there exist no EU regulations for a European (EU) non-profit organization
yet, such an association has to be organized on a national level (e.g. as
"Verein" in Germany). The AIW Committee will prepare a suggestion for such a
non-profit organization for the next AIW Business Meeting.
AIW Committee Meetings:
Further online AIW Committee Meetings can be organized upon request from
committee members by our AIW Online Meeting Manager James Mackay.
***
I want to thank James Mackay for the perfect organization of this online AIW
Committee Meeting!
